We Love A Good Story

  • 1983

    First Summer

Camp Hollymont for Girls was founded in 1983 by the Pickering family, who envisioned creating something truly special—a place where girls and young women could grow spiritually and personally, discover who they are, build lifelong friendships, and create memories that last a lifetime.

  • A Legacy of Service

Gail Mashburn came to Hollymont to oversee the administrative side of camp operations, but her impact has reached far beyond the details of running camp. For more than 35 years, she has poured herself into what she considers her life’s calling, faithfully supporting Hollymont’s mission and helping shape the camp it is today.

    New Ownership

The McKibbens family purchased Hollymont from the Pickering family, and their daughter Missy serves as Camp Director. Missy had attended the very first session of Camp Hollymont and loved every minute of it, continuing to attend and experience all that camp had to offer for several summers. She was excited to take the next step in continuing the Hollymont story.

  • Full-Circle Experiences

Former camper and staff member Emily Levy accepts the role of Camp Director, with Missy continuing to serve Hollymont as Executive Director. Having experienced Hollymont as both a camper and staff member, Emily was excited to step into this new role and continue serving a place that had already been an important part of her life for many years.

Mission

Our camp motto, Living & Learning with Love & Laughter, captures our commitment to fostering each camper’s physical, social, and spiritual development in a loving, Christian environment.  We want Hollymont to be…

· A Refuge: Hollymont is a safe space where campers can disconnect from everyday stress and responsibilities.
· A Place of Recreation: Campers recreate themselves through new activities and familiar traditions, finding joy in our vibrant community.
· A Place of Restoration: Hollymont offers an opportunity to reconnect with God, nurturing each camper’s spiritual journey.

Respect and Dignity

At Camp Hollymont, our Christian values inform our efforts to treat every camper with kindness and respect, recognizing that Jesus loved and died for all. Our staff are selected and trained to create a welcoming atmosphere that supports campers from various backgrounds.

Our Goals for Camper Development

Our camp is committed to helping each camper grow in meaningful ways.  We aim to:

  1. Promote Self-Confidence and Leadership: Campers build independence and take on leadership roles through group activities and challenges.
  2. Encourage Spiritual Growth: Daily devotions, Morning Watch, and chapel services provide faith and personal reflection opportunities.
  3. Create an Inclusive Environment: We foster a camp culture of teamwork, respect, and positive social interactions.
  4. Build Mental Resilience: Campers develop problem-solving skills and mental strength through structured activities.

God’s Story

At Hollymont, we believe that the greatest story of our lives is how God weaves our personal and collective experiences into His narrative of love and redemption for the world! Through Hollymont’s Christian focus, we encourage the campers to look at ways God is working in their lives, and how all of our stories are part of the grand tale God is shaping for the world.

Year-Round Staff

Rami (Cobb) McCutchen

Rami has held many titles in her 30+ years of experience with Hollymont – college summer staffer, adult program staffer, leadership team member (full time in the summer and advisory/support in the off season) and camp parent.  Her daughters, Alli and Rachel, were both campers and staff members.  Rami’s Masters in Education has prepared her well to serve as Camp Hollymont’s Executive Director.  She uses her many perspectives to prayerfully lead the Management Team and advise the Evergreen Council Board.

Emily Levy

Emily serves as Camp Hollymont’s Director. Emily started attending Hollymont in 2001 as a camper. Throughout her 11 years, she worked her way up to Counselor-In-Training, Counselor, and Head Counselor. Emily graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary & Special Education from Mercer University. She went on to get her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University. Emily worked as a 5th grade teacher for 8 years and throughout her career, she was awarded both McAllister Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year and Bryan County District’s Teacher of the Year. Emily’s true passion and prayer has always been to return to Camp Hollymont, and in 2019 God answered this prayer! Her emotional and spiritual dedication to Camp Hollymont are true assets to both the campers and staff.

Gail Mashburn
Gail serves as Hollymont’s Administrative Director. Since 1990, Gail has been a full-time staff member supervising the business office, camp store, and other camper/staff support services. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Hollymont team. Gail is a graduate of Warren Wilson College.

The Board

Elizabeth Hassen

Elizabeth first came to Hollymont as a young nurse in 2004 and the camp quickly became her second home. Over the years, she’s earned her doctorate in Healthcare Genetics, has had the joy of experiencing camp with both her mother, Evelyn who joined her on staff and her daughter, Cameron who grew from camper to counselor.  Elizabeth has served as Hollymont’s Healthcare Director ensuring the well‑being of generations of campers and staff. She brings her experience, commitment, and steady leadership to the Evergreen Council Board.

Mary Clarice (Eldridge) Hathaway

Mary Clarice grew up spending summers at Hollymont beginning in 1992.   After ten years of being a camper, CIT, and Junior Counselor, she focused on getting her undergrad and Master’s degrees from the University of Alabama. In the summer of 2021, Mary Clarice returned to Hollymont to serve on Program Staff and to introduce her daughter, Laney to the joys of Hollymont. Since then, she has served in many capacities including Mother Daughter Camp Program Coordinator, backup photographer, and Skills Facilitator.  As Managing Director of Finance and Business Affairs and member of the Evergreen Council Board she is focused on overseeing contracts, business and financial growth.

Pam Bullard

Pam’s relationship with Hollymont began when her then five-year-old daughter, Kenan, attended a home camp show and determined that she wanted to go to camp.  Pam accompanied her, serving on staff as an Advanced Practice Nurse.  Fourteen years later, Pam continues to play a major role in the Hollymont family. She helps prepare counselors during Staff Orientation Week.  She reviews and follows up on camper and staff medical documentation, and she returns throughout the summer to assist wherever she is needed.  Kenan’s own Hollymont journey has led her to be a camper, a CIT, and a counselor for the past two summers.  Hollymont has truly become a family tradition.

Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Overbey) Thomason

Lizzy’s first year at Hollymont was as a camper in 1993.  In the years that followed, she was a camper, counselor, and head counselor.  She came back to Hollymont in 2021, this time as a mom bringing her daughter, Anna so she could experience the joy of the Hollymont Bubble. Lizzy joined the Program Staff in 2023 teaching cooking and sewing.  Her work as Associate Director of College Counseling at Bayside Academy provides unique perspective into today’s youth.  She views being part of the Evergreen Council Board as a wonderful opportunity to faithfully help guide Hollymont into the future holding to its history while growing to support a new generation of young women.

Kelley (Sheppard) Lambert

Kelley’s story at Hollymont began years ago with a simple, adventurous decision. Her mother agreed to serve as camp nurse in the summer of 1995 when she was 7 years old. Kelley, her mom (Nurse Brenda), and sister, Sarrah Sheppard, spent each summer attending Camp Hollymont as campers and then returning as counselors. Today, that legacy has beautifully entered a new chapter with her own daughter, Vivienne, now attending Camp Hollymont.   Kelley has returned as well serving on Program Staff teaching culinary arts and cooking.  Kelley brings an exceptional blend of practical knowledge and faith-based leadership to her role on the Evergreen Council Board. She holds an undergraduate degree from Purdue University, and a master’s degree from Liberty University. Her academic background beautifully marries strong leadership with theological framework, ensuring that Hollymont remains a safe, vibrant, and spiritually enriching environment for generations to come.
