Welcome to Hollymont!

Please note: This website section will be updated for the 2025 summer by March 1, 2025.

General Information

At the heart of the overnight camp experience is the community living aspect, where campers share their living spaces with peers and counselors. Our goal is for your daughter to form positive connections with her hallmates and counselors, and we dedicate considerable effort to ensure that each hall is a harmonious mix of campers, staff, and personalities.

To facilitate this, campers are grouped into houses based on their age and grade level, with each house named after the group it represents: Hummingbirds for the youngest campers, followed by Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Eagles for the oldest. The number of houses used—ranging from three to four—depends on the session’s enrollment numbers and the distribution of ages and grades among the campers.

Each house is divided into two halls, grouping girls who are close in age and grade to further foster a sense of community. Parents have the opportunity to submit hall requests during online registration. Additionally, when the summer preparation modules go live online via Circuitree in the spring, the Hall Request module becomes available, allowing for changes or new requests to be made until the April deadline.

While girls can request to be placed in the same hall, room-sharing requests are not permitted. Hollymont strives to honor up to two requests per camper for those attending during the same session dates. Preferences regarding not sharing a room with a specific camper can also be indicated. We aim to make every effort to meet these requests, ensuring a positive and inclusive environment for all campers.

Please note: Mother/Daughter Camp will utilize one of our dorm-style houses, where the mother and daughter(s) share a room.

Clear communication with your requested friend(s) is very important. If you do not think it best to be with a camper requesting your daughter, be honest with the other parents involved. Such difficult conversations are easier before camp.

House and hall assignments are revealed on Opening Day (not before).

Camp Hollymont reserves the right to place camp participants (campers and CITs) in the house/hall that the Camp feels is best.  While careful consideration is given to each request, the final decision rests with the Camp.  We ask that you support Hollymont’s final decision regarding your camper/CIT’s living assignment, as last-minute changes are disruptive and may not be honored.

On Opening Day, your daughter’s counselor will show her to her assigned room. Each room has a bunk bed and sometimes a single (3/room).  Campers must bring their own set of twin-sized XL sheets for their bed. We recommend a comforter or warm blanket for cold nights; all campers must bring a pillow and pillowcase.

Campers love decorating their space and making it feel like home. To decorate their rooms, campers should bring bedding items and photos. Bedding items include blankets, stuffed animals, personal sheets/comforters, and pillows. Be kind to our walls—bring removable, non-toxic mounting putty or sticky tack for photos. (These are also Available for sale at the camp store.)

The following cannot be used at camp as they are safety issues enforced by the Rabun County fire marshal: Plug-in or battery-operated string lights, extension cords, and candles.

A camper’s birthday is very exciting, and we are honored that you’ll be sharing your daughter with us on this special day! We will celebrate with a personalized cake for her to share with her table at lunch, and the entire camp will sing “Happy Birthday” on her special day.

You can give your daughter’s counselor birthday decorations and/or send a birthday package. As always, packages cannot contain food, gum, or candy

If you wish to send flowers and/or balloons, you may do so.  Florist near camp that delivers:  Apple Blossom Flower Shoppe  (706) 782-6315

Campers love to receive mail and packages while they are at camp.  Your camper’s mailing address is:

Camp Hollymont
ATTN: (Your Camper’s FULL Name)
339 Nacoochee Drive
Rabun Gap, Georgia 30568

We kindly ask that you not send packages containing food, candy, or beverages.

Each camper has a mailbox in the Hub and may check their mail after 4th skill. We cannot guarantee when the mail carrier will arrive, but we will try to box the mail shortly after receiving it. The Hub is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and has limited hours on Sunday afternoons.

Packages may be claimed and opened at the package counter during canteen/camp store time.  Food items will be removed (by the camper) and stored at the camp office for return on closing day.

Campers should pack enough clothing for their entire session; however, some items are used more frequently. Counselors will wash their hall’s tribe shirts and towels as needed. Please make sure to label everything you send to camp. Use a permanent marker to label all belongings. Don’t forget to label cameras, Bibles, tennis racquets, shoes, etc.

We recommend campers not bring valuables (anything not easily replaced) to camp. Passports, cell phones, and cash will be collected on Opening Day and kept safely at the office. All valuables are returned to the campers on Closing Day.

Hollymont’s camp store offers camp apparel and merchandise for purchase during the summer. The store features clothing, blankets, towels, water bottles, and other items your daughter might want or need at camp. You can shop the camp store when dropping off your camper on Opening Day. Campers can also shop and purchase items at the camp store during Canteen time, right before Rest Hour.

Campers/CITs do not use cash at camp.  They have spending accounts.  Charges from the camp store, personal item requests, and medical expenses are recorded on the individual’s spending sheet.

Classic Camper, Starter Camper, & CITs

We will automatically add spending money to each camp participant’s spending account before camp.  The invoice will reflect the charge as “Spending Account Deposit.” Based on each session length, we recommend:

13-Day Classic and Counselor-in-Training Sessions: $150

7 Day Starter Sessions: $125

When summer prep modules become available online via Circuitree in the spring, you may use the Store Spending Account module to let us know to increase your camper’s spending allowance.

After accounts have received a final review at the end of the season, unused spending money will first be applied to any outstanding balance and then refunded.  (You may also request that it be transferred to next summer.)

Mother/Daughter Participants

Due to the short-term nature of the Mother/Daughter Session, participants will not have a spending account with deposited funds. Instead, mothers and their daughters will have a joint spending sheet on which the charges from the camp store and any miscellaneous charges will be recorded. When the session ends, the spending sheet balance will be charged to the credit card provided by the participant at check-out.

Opening & Closing Day

One of the best days of the summer is a Hollymont Opening Day – it is full of excitement, anticipation, and lots of happy campers.

GPS ADDRESS FOR OPENING DAY:

339 Nacoochee Drive
Rabun Gap, GA 30568

The front gates can be accessed at 9:30 a.m. Information regarding the front gates will be emailed 5 days before arrival. If you have any difficulties entering or if you arrive after the gate closes, please call the office at 828-686-5343 for assistance.

Classic and Starter Session Check-In: Sunday 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Mother-Daughter Session Check-In: Wednesday 1:30 – 3 p.m.

Counselor-on-Training Check-In: Saturday 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

After entering through the gates, follow the signs to the parking lot, and join us at the front steps of The Hub (Rabun Gap Student Center) to begin the check-in process.

You will meet the camp director and check in with the business office. The nurses will review your camper’s health forms, perform a simple screening, and collect camper medications.  You may visit the camp store before you return to your car, proceed to your camper’s house, meet her counselors, and move in.

If you are dropping off siblings at other camps and need to coordinate arrival times, please contact the camp office at 828-686-5343. We will be happy to help.

If you are flying into the area and bringing your camper/CIT to camp, then the three largest airports closest to Rabun Gap are the Atlanta Airport (GA), the Asheville Regional Airport (NC), and the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (SC).  Travel times to camp are relatively the same.

For private jet service, the closest airports are R.G. LeTourneau Field Toccoa-Stephens County Airport in Toccoa, GA and Macon County Airport in Franklin, NC.  (Please be aware that fog may hinder early morning flights at the Macon County Airport.

If you are not coming with your camper/CIT, then we offer airport transportation to and from the Asheville Regional Airport for an additional fee. (Summer 2024 – $200 one way per camper/CIT).  If you will be sending your camper/CIT via airplane, please complete the Camper Arrival/Departure Module in your Circuitree account on or before April 20th so that we know of your intentions.  If your flight plans have not been finalized, please indicate that in the module.  Once they are complete, edit the Camper Arrival/Departure Module and email 4info@hollymont.com to let us know.  We must have finalized flight information no later than May 20th.

The Asheville Regional Airport is approximately 88 miles away.  Flights should be booked to arrive and/or depart between 10AM and 2PM to allow for getting to and from the airport in a timely manner and for coordinating with airline and camp schedules.  We will only make one trip to the Asheville airport on opening and closing days. Outgoing flights will require us to depart from camp 3-4 hours prior to the first boarding flight of the day. This allows for traffic and weather delays.

North Georgia and Western North Carolina offers a variety of lodging options from elegant historic inns to hotels, mountain cabins, bed & breakfast inns, resorts, and short-term vacation rentals. This list is based on recommendations of parents and friends. Please let us know if we need to add or delete from the sampling.

We will have your camper’s bags packed and ready to make loading the car as easy as possible. Hollymont staff will be available to help you load your camper’s belongings.  Our counselors and CITs assist your camper in the packing process, but we ask that you please go to your camper’s room to ensure all her things have been collected.

Please be mindful as you drive around campus.  Excited (and distracted) campers, parents, and staff may be in the roadway and moving around campus on foot between the buildings.

Packing & Preparing

There is nothing more exciting than packing and preparing for your time at camp! As you and your camper prepare for a summer at Hollymont, we have done our best to provide a list to assist with the packing process. We also send a Special Events packing list between April 15 and May 1. This will provide you with additional suggested items your camper should pack, based on their session. We cannot wait to see you at Hollymont this year! Click on the links below to access our packing suggestions:

Starter Session Packing List

Special Events Packing List

Possession or use of tobacco products including vaping pen/devices, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, improperly obtained prescription medications, knives/firearms/explosives are prohibited. Use of profanity, deliberate abuse of self, abuse of others (bullying, sexual harassment, and/or inappropriate touch), inappropriate possession/abuse of property belonging to others, inappropriate language or conversations, actions contrary to Biblical standards, and leaving the Hollymont premises without the directors’ permission are strictly forbidden.

We request that camp participants leave animals, cell phones, Apple watches or similar, digital cameras, iPods, IPads, laptop computers, DVD players, and other electronic equipment at home. Campers/CITs may not bring personal vehicles to camp.  If camp participants choose to bring their personal sporting equipment to camp, some items may be left in their rooms (example: tennis racquet) while other items (example: archery bows) will be stored securely.  We ask that all items be well marked with the camp participant’s name.

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.

Click here to read more about our “unplugged” summers!

The problems (allergic reactions, sanitation, hurt feelings, poor eating habits, and upset stomachs) created by food packages far outweigh the joys of receiving them.  Any food sent will be held in the camp office and when feasible, sent home with your camper.

We ask that you only pack 1-piece bathing suits and no tankinis. We also ask that swimsuits be modest and must fully cover the body (no cut-outs or skimpy bottoms).

Sundays at Hollymont are carefully planned to be inspirational for all age groups.  We encourage Classic campers and staff to wear dresses for Sunday morning worship in the Chapel.  We kindly request no spaghetti straps or strapless dresses.

A summer at Hollymont should be one of the best experiences in your daughter’s life. Our counselors are well-trained on addressing homesickness, implementing various tools and strategies while taking excellent care of your camper. You can help prepare your camper by visiting our website or social media pages, showing her pictures and videos of camp to get her excited! By keeping a few things in mind before the summer, you can help assure that your daughter has an easy transition into camp. You can click here to read more, but here’s a summary of our philosophy:

Focus On The Good Things

Let your camper know how excited you are about the fun that she is going to have at Hollymont, instead of dwelling on the “I’ll miss you” scenarios. This will get her excited about camp instead of thinking about how much she is going to miss you while she’s gone.

Bartering & Making Deals

Do not make a “deal” or compromise with your child about camp. One of the worst things that you can do is tell her, “If you don’t like it, you can come home.” This will cause your daughter to evaluate every minute of the day to decide whether she likes it or not. The weight of this “decision” ultimately can overwhelm even a strong camper and keep her from enjoying camp.

ZIPLINE CANOPY TOUR (Minimum Age: 10)

Flyers must be in good physical condition and able to raise their arms over their heads to regulate speed and braking. Since harness seats wrap around the upper thigh, shoulders, and waist, flyers should wear shirts with collars, long shorts, or pants. Closed-toed shoes are required. Long hair must be tied back.

WHITEWATER RAFTING TRIP (Minimum Age: 11)

Moderate Intensity Level. Fully guided trip.  No previous whitewater experience is needed.

Trip Length: Approximately 7 hours

Meals: Buffet lunch on the river

Equipment Furnished: Raft, paddle, PFD, helmet

Bring Swim Shoes or closed-toe shoes that can get wet.  Swimsuit.  Towel.

HORSEBACK TRAIL RIDE (Minimum Age: 7)

Riding helmets are required, and the vendor provides them.   Fully guided trip.

Jeans/riding pants are required.

Riders are encouraged to wear boot-type shoes with heels and smooth-surface soles, although tennis shoes may be used.

During the Summer

While your camper is learning valuable lessons of independence, we make it easy for you to see what’s going on at camp and stay in touch with your daughter via Bunk1. In late May you will be able to access the Bunk1 log-in screen from within your Circuitree account, go directly to Bunk1 at www.bunk1.com, or download the Bunk1 app.

If you already have a Bunk1 account (returning campers), your credentials (username & password) are the same as what you have used in the past to access Bunk1.  If you are a new Hollymont family and have never had a Bunk1 account, you will use your Circuitree credentials to log into Bunk1.

Remember:  Campers still love to receive snail mail and packages while they are at camp.

Keep your correspondence light and encouraging.  If there’s bad news, please be sensitive to how and when it is relayed.  You are welcome to contact our office if bad news needs to be given to a camper or CIT.

We suggest that you start mailing cards, letters, and packages 4-5 days before your camper arrives at Hollymont to give the US Postal service time to get the mail to camp.  Remind your camper to check her mail slot regularly.  Packages and mail left in the mail slots or that arrive on or after closing day will have to be forwarded.

Your camper’s mailing address is:

Camp Hollymont
ATTN: (Your Camper’s FULL Name)
339 Nacoochee Drive
Rabun Gap, Georgia 30568

With thousands of photos and uploads several times a day, you’ll be able to keep up with your camper and see all the fun they’re having at Hollymont! Each day of the session our camp photographer takes lots of pictures documenting skills and activities.  They are uploaded at least twice a day during the session.  To view the photos, you will need to log in to your Bunk1 Account and click on the gallery. You can view and favorite photos for free.

You also have the option to purchase prints and other photo products. Please contact Bunk1 directly if you have questions or need assistance with purchases.

The pictures are usually available until January of the following year.

If you want to stay in touch with your camper but are pressed for time, forgot to mail something, or are traveling, Bunknotes are lifesavers.  It’s like sending your camper an e-mail! You can log into your Bunknote account and purchase a “bundle” that allows you send either a few or a lot of Bunknotes. Keep in mind that this is a one-way service (parent to camper).

Each morning, we receive a document with the Bunknotes sent from the previous day.  We will print out the Bunknotes and send them to the mail center to be sorted and put in the mail slots.   While campers can’t sent Bunknotes, we encourage them to write home. We sell postcards, cards, envelopes, and stamps in the camp store.

At Camp Hollymont we are challenging staff and campers to do a digital detox and to focus on the people, places, and opportunities in front of them. Fostering independence and promoting healthy lifestyle choices are worthy camp goals.

Health & Safety

Your daughter’s health and safety is our number one concern at camp. Healthy campers are happy campers.  Good health begins with counselors and campers practicing good housekeeping and personal care habits. We also believe part of healthy living is getting a good night’s sleep.  Our healthcare team works to build a good rapport with the campers and staff at mealtimes, in the health center, and all across the Hollymont campus by observing/participating in camp activities.  When concerns arise, they reach out to parents/guardians.

We are mindful of preventing the spread of communicable diseases and keeping your camper feeling her best during the summer. We clean and disinfect buildings and high-traffic areas regularly, encourage hand washing and hand sanitizing, and promote proper hygiene practices.

Please contact us prior to Opening Day to discuss any health concerns. For your camper’s sake, as well as the health of other campers and staff, please do not bring her to camp if she has had a fever or other illness within 48 hours of Opening Day. Please call to discuss this with us.

Parents/guardians play a critical role in camper healthcare by providing the information we need to meet and manage camper healthcare needs.  The “Medical Information Modules” are available by logging in to your Circuitree account.  These modules include the Medical History, Immunization Record Upload, Insurance Card Upload, and Health Exam Form.

Medical Heath History

We must have a completed health history for each minor camp participant every year.  This module will allow you to input or update required health history information and upload health related documents into your camper’s file.   This module will address information on allergies, diet & nutrition, health history, emergency contacts, medications, immunization history, insurance information, healthcare providers, and the medical release.  Basic information will be collected for adults attending the Mother/Daughter Session.

Immunization Record Upload

Returning campers should update the immunization records already listed in the Medical History module.  New campers or returning campers with no immunization information listed in the immunization History section are to upload a legible PDF of the camper’s current immunization record.

Insurance Card Upload

All campers are to upload a PDF of the front and back of the camper’s insurance card.

Health Exam Form

All first-time camp participants or returning campers/CIT’s who did not come in 2023 will need to have their healthcare provider complete the “New Camper Health Exam Form.”   This gives our camp nurses a baseline for care.  Returning campers who came in 2023 only need complete this form if they have a new or chronic condition requiring a treatment plan update.  Instructions for completion will be available in the module.

Prior to Opening Day, the healthcare team will review the incoming campers’ medical information.

On Opening Day, the nurses will have a station in the “Hub” aka Rabun Gap Student Center.

They will meet your family, review your camper’s medical information, perform simple screenings, and collect medications.  During the session, our nursing staff will be responsible for delivering medications as prescribed.

Please note that all medications must be in the original pharmacy container with labels that show the camper’s name and how the medication should be given or in the original OTC container. Medications will be given according to the package label instructions unless we have written instructions from a healthcare professional.

If your camper has a health care regiment that requires in-depth discussion, please contact the camp office prior to Opening Day and briefly explain your circumstances so the nurses can reach out to you by phone.

We ask that your camper be free of signs/symptoms of illness or injury and free of signs/ symptoms of head lice. We reserve the right to ask that a camper stay at Hollymont be postponed, canceled, or shortened if her being at camp poses a risk to other campers and staff.

Please contact our office if your camper/CIT has had difficulties within 72 hours before she arrives at Hollymont.

If your camper has had head lice recently, we ask that she have been treated twice (7 days apart) and be nit-free.

All campers are checked for head lice by our camp nurses during the Opening Day health screening. If nits or head lice are found, your camper must be professionally treated before completing the check-in process, moving into her cluster, and participating in activities.   You are responsible for securing treatment and for the costs incurred.

Closest location in North Carolina: Asheville Lice (ashevillelice.com) provides professional lice screening and treatments. They are located at 116 Elkwood Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804. Call ahead for an appointment. (828-407-1670)

Closest location in Georgia: Lice Clinics of America-Forsyth County (Cummings, GA)

Best idea we’ve heard lately – Get a professional head check at home just before coming to camp and ask for a certificate to document that on the day of the check your camper had no evidence of lice or nits. Having that certificate in hand will avoid the stress of lice surprise and expedite the check-in process

We understand the importance of thorough communication and are committed to keeping you informed in a thoughtful and transparent manner before, during, and after your daughter’s session. We will contact you if there is ever a health issue that affects your daughter’s camp experience. This would include: if your camper spends the night in the Infirmary, needs to visit a doctor,  or if she is unable to participate in scheduled camp activities due to illness or injury.

To read more about our communication policy, click here.

Hollymont has at least three registered nurses, a 24-hour-a-day resident doctor, and a full-time Health Director to care for your daughter’s needs. Should an accident or illness be untreatable at our camp, we have arrangements for professional service in Rabun Gap. Every effort will be made to contact parents before obtaining outside medical care.

Please contact us prior to Opening Day to discuss any health concerns. For your daughter’s sake, as well as the health of other campers, please do not bring her to camp if she has had a fever or other illness within 48 hours of Opening Day. Please call to discuss this with us.

On Opening Day, you will meet with one of our nurses to discuss any health concerns and hand over medications. Our nursing staff will be responsible for delivering medications as prescribed.

Special Note: Common over-the-counter medications are stocked in our infirmary, so there’s no need to bring OTC medications (Tylenol, Benedryl, etc) to camp.

During each session, the on-campus Hollymont healthcare team consists of at least two registered nurses.  The third healthcare team member may be another RN or a CNA.  The healthcare team is guided by medical protocols set in place by a local family physician.  Should an accident or illness be untreatable at our camp, we have arrangements for professional service in Rabun County.  Every effort will be made to contact parents before obtaining outside medical care.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of our campers is our top priority at Hollymont. That’s why we maintain a strict peanut-free policy, using Sunbutter as an alternative. We kindly request your cooperation in refraining from sending care packages that contain food products.  Our ‘Snack Shack’ items are also carefully selected, ensuring a safe environment for all campers.

At Hollymont, we believe in transparency when it comes to food. Our kitchen and dining team prepare various foods for campers to enjoy. To keep you informed and confident about the food choices, screens in the dining hall serving area display the current meal offerings and any allergens (dairy, gluten, soy, etc.) they may contain. We want you to feel secure in knowing that we are doing everything possible to cater to your camper’s dietary needs.

When you complete the camper application and medical health history, you alert our summer staff and the kitchen and dining team to your camper’s food allergies or intolerances. They like getting to know your camper to ensure additional options are provided at every meal.

Camp Hollymont is a member of the American Camp Association and has achieved accreditation status for many years.  Their professional standards challenge Hollymont to be safe and effective in delivering a premier overnight summer camp experience.

Please share the following vehicle safety guidelines with your camper before arrival.

  1. Obey all instructions given by the driver or staff assistant.
  2. All passengers and drivers must wear seat belts. We do not allow campers to share seatbelts.

Campers less than age 8 and less than 80 pounds must ride in a weight-appropriate child restraint or booster seat certified to meet federal motor vehicle safety standards. If no shoulder belt-equipped seating position is available for a belt-positioning booster seat, campers under age 8 and between 40 and 80 pounds will be restrained by a properly fitted lap belt only.

  3. Throwing objects inside the vehicle or out of the windows is prohibited.

  4. Remain in your seat while the vehicle is moving.
  5. Refrain from extending any part of your body (head, arms, feet, etc.) out of the vehicle.
  6. To avoid distracting the driver, do not yell, scream, or talk too loudly.

Schedule & Skills

Our daily camp schedule ensures that campers take advantage of every minute of fun we offer! This schedule also ensures that campers do not have too much “downtime,” which sometimes increases the likelihood of homesickness during those first few days of camp. Visit the Explore section of our website for more details!

The daily schedule is for weekdays. Adaptations to the schedule are made for: special activities, opening/closing days, and weekends.

Skills are one of the many things our campers look forward to each summer at Hollymont! Our Starter & Classic campers can choose from a wide variety of classes while they are here.

In the spring, you and your camper have the opportunity to choose which skills they would like to take. After submitting these classes online, we will pre-schedule your daughter so that when she arrives at camp, she can jump right into her classes! To learn more about our skills and activities, visit the Explore page of our website or click here.

Skills are one of the many things our campers look forward to each summer at Hollymont! Camper skill schedules will be handed out on Monday morning before first skill.

Starter and Classic campers attend skills Monday through Friday of the first week. Classic campers continue their skills Monday through Wednesday of the second week.

Please visit the Explore section of our website for the skill descriptions and other skills-related information. Skill placement has many dimensions and is subject to change as skill requests are received, interest is determined, and staff is hired.

Beginning in late February or early March, you can access the “Skills Request & Optional Trips” Module by logging into your Circuitree account.

This module lets you and your camper select skills and/or trips.  You will choose six “first-choice” skills and six different “alternate skills.”

If you select a “1st Choice” skill with a fee, the fee will be added automatically to your invoice. If your camper is not confirmed for that skill, the fee will be credited to your account.

If you select an “Alternate” or “Waitlist” skill with a fee, the fee will be manually added to your invoice once we confirm placement in the skill.

The Skills Request & Optional Trips Module should be completed online by April 20th.  Campers who register after that date should select skills as part of the registration process.

NOTE:  If you register for camp after the April 20th payment deadline, you must pay for skills with an additional fee AT THE TIME OF SELECTION.  Failure to do so will leave your skill selections in a “pending” status.

CIT’s will complete the Skills Assist Preference Module to indicate their ability and preference for assisting with Skills.

Mother-Daughter camp participants will sign up for skills once they arrive at camp.

Campers may choose to participate in off-campus trips for an additional fee.

Age and trip participant number restrictions apply.  Waiting lists will be utilized as needed.  Please visit the Explore section of our website for more details.

The Skills Request and Optional Trips module will allow you to sign up for trips and complete the required waivers and payment.  If there is space available, trip reservations will be accepted after the April 20th deadline.

Parent FAQ

All over! Our campers represent many states and several countries.

We comply with American Camping Association ratios and safety standards. For girls ages 6-8, the ACA cluster counselor-to-camper ratio is 1:6. For girls aged 9-14, the ACA ratio is 1:8. For girls ages 15-18, the ACA ratio is 1:10.

The configuration of the room depends on the number of campers in the room. We use a combination of single beds and bunk beds, never putting more than 3 campers in one room. Each room has a dedicated closet space, two chests of drawers, and two desks.

The majority of our staff range in age from 18 (counselors) to 60+ (program staff/nurses). The cluster counselors are usually between the ages of 18 and 25.

Absolutely! We encourage you to visit camp and we would be happy to arrange a visit with you anytime. If you would like to visit in the winter months, please call our camp office (828) 686-5343 ahead of time so we can find a time that best suits everyone.

On her first day at Hollymont, each camper is instructed to leave her medication (prescription and over-the-counter) with the camp nurse. Medications are locked in the infirmary and dispensed by camp nurses as needed. Recognizing that campers may need to carry an inhaler or bee-sting medication kit, an exception may be made for a limited amount of medication for life-threatening conditions.

The daytime temperatures are usually between 75 and 90 degrees. The evenings are cool.

Each cluster ranges between 6 and 16 campers. Each cluster is assigned several counselors in addition to a counselor-in-training (CIT).

You will be glad to know your daughter doesn’t have to walk through the woods with a flashlight in the middle of the night to locate the bathroom! There are bathrooms in each housing unit which consisting of multiple private stalls and private showers.

If your daughter and her friend are from the same town, same school, and same grade, we do not recommend placing them in the same room. We can put girls in the same cluster (four adjacent rooms – one counselor room and three camper rooms). This encourages the girls to make new friends while at camp.

It is totally up to you! Suitcases have the advantage of being stowed more easily under a bed or in a closet. A trunk is larger and may take up more space. Rooms have storage space that can accommodate either choice.

Laundry service is provided to campers staying one month. The clusters on the hall share a limited number of washers and dryers. If needed, counselors will do a load of laundry (consisting of towels and tribe shirts).

Our counselors are trained in orientation to deal with campers displaying unacceptable behavior.

· Depending on the situation, the counselor will sit down and talk to the camper(s) involved and work on a solution.
· If a counselor feels more involvement is needed or if the problem continues, a director will sit down with the camper and work on an acceptable solution.
· If the problem persists, a director may call a camper’s parents.

If your camper is flying in, we will ask her to call home to let you know she arrived safely. Afterwards, her cell phone will be turned off and kept in the camp safe until the end of the session.

Whenever we spend time in a new environment, it’s totally natural to have some anxiety. The best thing to do is to remind your daughter of the new friends she’s going to make, the new talents she’ll discover, and the exciting opportunities she’ll have to try new things! If that doesn’t work, here are a few additional tips you can try.

· If you were once a camper, share your fun memories and experiences.
· Encourage her to write a letter, play a game, talk with friends, etc. when she gets homesick.
· Remember to send your daughter letters, pictures from home, funny cards, or Bunk Notes.
· Encourage your daughter to speak with her counselor.

This is totally normal. Try to focus on the fact that you are providing your daughter with a wonderful opportunity to have fun, gain a measure of independence, and make new friends.

We don’t allow campers to use the phone, but we encourage you to mail letters and send Bunknotes (via Bunk1).

Please call our office if your daughter indicates she is having a problem or if there are family, school, or emergency circumstances requiring immediate attention. Our staff is available to answer questions and address issues regarding your camper. Often the situation can be resolved without your directly speaking to your daughter; thus allowing her to learn a valuable lesson in self-reliance.
